Organizations

For users: an organization is a community inside the network. The GT Venture Network is the first one. Every organization has a kind (university network, club, accelerator, or community), a visibility, and a join policy that controls how people get in.

Every member of an org has one of three roles:

Role Can do
Owner Everything an admin can, plus change the org’s slug, kind, visibility, and join policy, and change anyone’s role including making another owner.
Admin Manage members, approve join requests, invite people, and publish on behalf of the org.
Member Read and publish as themselves.
Policy What happens when you try to join
Open You join at once.
Request You ask to join and can write a short message saying why. An owner or admin approves or declines it.
Invite only You need an invitation from an owner or admin. Asking to join does not work.

Public organizations are listed at /orgs for anyone to find. Unlisted ones are link only, reachable if you already have the URL but absent from the directory.

An owner or admin can set a logo and a cover photo from the org’s settings page (the Profile tab), or with vn orgs logo <slug> ./logo.png and vn orgs cover <slug> ./cover.jpg. Either takes a file to upload or a --url link to an image, of which the network stores a copy. PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF up to 5 MB.

The logo keeps its own proportions, is stored at up to 512 pixels on its longest edge, and appears at the top of the org page and beside the name in the directory. The cover photo is a wide image, stored at up to 1600 pixels, shown across the top of the org page and as a strip on the org’s card. Pass --remove on either command, or use Remove on the settings page, to take one down.

Events and posts take images the same way: an event’s host (or the host org’s owners and admins) sets a cover image from the event’s edit page or with vn events cover <id>, and a post’s author sets a photo from the post’s edit page or with vn posts photo <id>. Both create forms also take an image link, so a cover or photo can be set at creation time.

Browse and join from /orgs, from a terminal, or from an MCP client:

Terminal window
vn orgs join gt-venture-network

vn orgs join <slug> joins at once for an open org, or files a request for one that requires approval, and the MCP tool is join_org. Add --message "..." to say why you want in, used only when the org requires approval.

An owner or admin can invite you by email to a specific organization in a specific role. The email comes from Venture Network <[email protected]> with a link to https://venturenetwork.ai/invite/<token>. Opening it asks you to sign in first if you have not, then adds you to the org and lands you on its page.

If something is wrong, the page says so in one line. Three things can go wrong: the invitation is not valid, it has expired, or it was sent to a different address than the one you signed in with. A fresh invitation from the org fixes all three.

Leaving is not in the web app or the CLI yet. DELETE /v1/orgs/{slug}/members/me removes your own membership over the API. The last owner of an organization cannot be demoted, removed, or leave. Transfer ownership to someone else first.

If you run a club, a program, an accelerator, or a community, apply to bring it onto the network from the landing page or from /orgs. You do not need to be a member yet. Create an account, fill in the organization’s details and your role there, and the E-Club team reviews it within a few days. Approval creates the organization with you as its owner, activates your membership if it was pending, and emails you a link to a short setup checklist. Only network admins can create an organization any other way.

For managing members and sending invitations as an owner or admin, see Inviting people.
