Intro requests

For users: an intro request is how you ask to be introduced to another member, whether you found them from their profile, from something they posted, or as the host of an event you are looking at.

Open a profile and choose “Request an intro,” or ask from a post (“Ask for an intro to the author”) or an event (“Ask for an intro to the host”). Write a short message, up to 500 characters, saying why. From a terminal:

Terminal window
vn intros request --to <handle> --message "..."
vn intros request --post <id> --message "..."
vn intros request --event <id> --message "..."

Pass exactly one of --to, --post, or --event. The MCP tool is request_intro.

You can ask about anyone whose profile you can see, which is every member who has finished their profile, public or members-only. You can have at most ten pending requests out at a time, and only one pending request to any one person.

/intros lists what you have sent and received in two tabs. A pending request you received has Accept and Decline buttons. From a terminal:

Terminal window
vn intros list
vn intros list --sent
vn intros show <id>
vn intros accept <id>
vn intros decline <id>

The MCP tools are list_intros and respond_to_intro.

Accepting an intro request sends both of you an email carrying the other person’s name and email address. There is no chat inside the network itself. The conversation happens over email from there. Declining sends the requester one email with no reason attached.

A pending request you have not answered within 30 days reads as expired the next time anyone looks at it. Nothing sends automatically at that point, and nothing runs on a schedule to mark it. It just stops being answerable.
